Created in the colonial era and still active today, the Council is made up of nine members, representing eight districts, and is chaired by the Lieutenant Governor. We are in the 4th District which includes the Senate districts of Senators: John Keenan, Nick Collins, Pat O’Connor, Mike Rush, and Liz Miranda.

Ron's message for transparency and accountability in how the Governor’s Council evaluates judges and approves spending has been enthusiastically received by many of the groups he has met with all over the South Shore. The incumbent has served for 40 years, and it is time for a change.

What exactly is a Governor's Council?
The Governors Council approves or rejects the Governor’s nominations for judges in the state court system at all levels, Trial Courts, including District and Superior Courts, Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court. The Governor’s Council provides “advice and consent” for the Governor’s appointments to the Parole Board and it must approve all Gubernatorial Pardons and Commutations. The Council is also responsible for State Treasury Warrants, and must approve the payment of all bills paid by the Commonwealth

The Governor’s Council meets weekly to record advice and consent on pardons and commutations, gubernatorial appointments such as judges, clerk-magistrates, public administrators, members of the Parole Board, Appellate Tax Board, Industrial Accident Board and Industrial Accident Reviewing Board, notaries, and justices of the peace.

I wish someone could explain to me why this was not disqualifying behavior in 2016. It still mystifys me that so many have accepted this conduct over the years. Meryl Streep explains it beautifully.
