ok get ready because this is going to be a very vulnerable and long post!

i’ve been going to therapy for 14 years. initially it was to help my anxiety. i didn’t realize it at the time but i had been dealing with anxiety since i was a little kid. through these 14 years, i learned so much of myself and i truly am so thankful for having such an amazing therapist. here’s some of the things i’ve learned:

stop betraying yourself for the happiness of others- i learned to stop people pleasing. this only leads to resentment towards others and unhappiness within yourself. i learned how to say NO and set more boundaries. i feel more in control and overall happier because i’m putting my needs above others (but not in a selfish way)

anxiety will never truly go away - this was such a hard pill to swallow. when i first started therapy, my only goal was to make the anxiety go away. i then learned that it never truly goes away, we only learn how to deal with it. through therapy, i’ve learned how to regulate my system and get through episodes of anxiety. i practice breathing and grounding techniques that stop me from disassociating and help me chill out.
