A check-out test is required of all members to participate in recreational sailing and paddling. Members taking courses will learn the skills required for this evaluation. Scheduled classes and private instruction are available to teach the proper skills required to handle each class of boat at CBC.

Community Boating Center has established youth “Sailorship” scholarship programs to provide funding to individuals for sailing instruction or to groups committed to providing opportunities that allow the general public to experience the thrill of sailing in upper Narragansett Bay.

Volunteers for Boards, programs and events are always welcome! CBC is overseen by a volunteer Board of Trustees and Directors dedicated to our mission and the sport of sailing. Boards/committees are comprised of industry leaders, CBC members, volunteers, parents, and others.

Practice the Wet Exit (kayaks) Learn how to get out of, hang on to, right, and re-enter a capsized boat. The best self-rescue technique for sit-on-tops is BBF- Belly, Butt, Feet. Pull the kayak under you, and stabilize yourself on the kayak: first on your belly, then your butt, and finally your feet.
