McPeek: Dubai World Cup or Apple Blossom for 'Anna' 12/23/2024

McPeek: Dubai World Cup or Apple Blossom for 'Anna' As much as extending 2024 by a few months would not bother trainer Kenny McPeek, he's already looking forward to 2025.

Hate to hear this…

We are saddened to hear that Uncle Mo has been euthanized at the age of 16.

According to reports, Uncle Mo had undergone surgery for a foreleg injury yesterday but did not recover well and was euthanized today on veterinary advice.

The handsome son of Indian Charlie was an immediate success on the track for his owner Repole Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher. His undefeated two-year-old campaign in 2010, which included wins in the Champagne (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), earned him the Eclipse Award for Champion Two-Year-Old C**t. His three-year-old season was marred by his struggle with cholangiohepatitis, but he still managed to win the Timely Writer Stakes and Kelso Handicap (G2) and secured placings in the Wood Memorial (G1) and King’s Bishop (G1).

The precocious horse retired to Coolmore America’s Ashford Stud for the 2012 breeding season. His first crop included Nyquist, who like his sire won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and was named Champion Two-Year-Old C**t. Nyquist also redeemed his sire when he won the 2016 Kentucky Derby, as illness had forced Uncle Mo's connections to scratch him on the morning of the race in 2011. Uncle Mo has sired 59 graded stakes winners, including the likes of Golden Pal, Mo Donegal, Arabian Knight, Adare Manor, Yaupon, and Mo Town.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on X, Mike Repole wrote, “Uncle Mo was so much more to me than a champion and iconic stallion - he was and always will be a part of my family.”

Coolmore’s Dermot Ryan shared, “He will be greatly missed by everyone here in particular by his personal groom Rene Macias.”

Our hearts are with all who knew and loved the brilliant Uncle Mo. 💙
