Prospect post office to move to new location. Here's where to find it
• The Prospect post office is relocating a quarter mile down U.S. Highway 42.
• The move is prompted by the loss of its current lease due to planned grocery-anchored redevelopment.
• A temporary mobile unit will operate until the new location is ready.
The Prospect post office will soon be on the move.
The U.S. Postal Service location at 9523 U.S. Highway 42 at Prospect Point Shopping Center will move a quarter mile down the road to 9217 U.S. Highway 42 at the Prospect Plaza shopping center, the Postal Service announced June 20.
Operations will continue at the current site through July 31. Until the new location is fully ready to open, a temporary mobile post office will open in the parking lot of either the current or the future location, according to the Postal Service.
The Postal Service lost its lease at the current location, where a grocery-anchored redevelopment is in the works.
A development plan filed in December 2024 shows a nearly 56,000-square-foot grocery store would be built on site, the Courier Journal previously reported. That plan is still moving through the city's approval process. No specific grocery tenant has yet been announced.
The development would include the grocery and adjacent retail storefronts totaling about 20,000 square feet, similar to the existing layout, according to a site plan.
"While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Prospect community, we properly considered community input, and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives," a spokesperson said in a release, saying the Postal Service "carefully considered the concerns and comments received from the public."
Sutherland Residents,
Plans have been announced again for building a large apartment complex by the Kroger gas station on Timber Ridge Dr. It is like the one proposed and not approved by Metro Council several years ago because it was incompatible with the surrounding area. We are gathering signatures on two petitions regarding this plan.
The first petition asks for the rezoning hearing to be moved from downtown during the business day to the local area in the evening, so that residents can voice their thoughts and become informed.
The second petition opposes the rezoning allowing this multi-unit complex that is larger than a football field, is multi-stories high, and has inadequate parking since we have no public transportation available for the residents to go to work or get basic services not available in Prospect.
We need 300 signatures. If you would like to sign one or both of these petitions (and have not already done so; some have already been circulating throughout the neighborhood) they will be available at the Sutherland Club House from 5-7pm on both Tuesday, April 26 and Thursday, April 28.
