On My Block isn't your typical coming-of-age television show. Usually, these types of shows are filled with suburban culture, wealthy kids, and a very filtered view of high school life through the repetitive display of partying, s*x, dating, etc. Yet, On My Block defies all of this is and is still so poignant. With a primarily Black and Hispanic cast, the show shows us a new type of reality set in inner city LA. As four teenagers deal with the challenges of starting high school, they learn what it means to live in a world with social barriers many teenagers don't experience.
