My Opinion on Police Shootings:

This is from a former Marine and retired nypd member who has seen other departments.
I have been saying for years that the amount of training and preparation that is provided by NYC police officers is ridiculous, archaic and quite simply dangerous. If civilians knew what the training and qualifying requirements are they would be horrified. I'm not blaming the cops I'm blaming the city.
Facts :
1) Recreational shooters practice more than police
2) Police qualify 2x a year and the passing qualification is a joke
3) a police man's gun is the best to buy resale, "it's hardly ever fired"
4)They train at targets, not at an increased heart rate, that is more consistent with real life situations.
5) Smaller departments have better training due to less financial restraints.
6) The politicians would rather pay the few lawsuits that occur each year (covered by insurance) than pay for training the officers appropriately
7) There are no indoor ranges in each precinct so officers can train more often
8)a carpenter, plumber, electrician get trained with their equipment more often (apprenticeships) than officers get with their guns.
9) yes more skilled training is in place as you go to other units ie. Esu, terrorist task force, hostage negotiations. Their success/accident rate is almost zero.
10) I'm talking the average patrolman who is more liable to come upon an instant decision to protect his life and take another
11) case in point graduating a class and putting them on corners in NYC for NYE, no experience whatsoever.
12) The next patrolman involved in a shooting should sue the department for lack of training, a slam dunk win
