I loved diagramming sentences in school.
While everyone else groaned, I was quietly delighted. Give me a complicated sentence and I was in heaven.
I didn’t know it meant anything. I just loved English class.
I certainly didn’t know I’d become an editor one day, and not until my fifties.
It’s funny how the things we love early sometimes disappear for a while. Life fills in the space. Careers. Family. Responsibilities.
And then one day, the space opens again.
I’m connected to so many writers who say the same thing in reverse:
“I always wanted to write.”
Maybe it’s not late.
Maybe it’s timing.
