Those spikey blood sugar moments when you need to eat, your hands and joints go clammy, and your mood swings hangry, these are moments that could be managed by what you eat and in what order. The salad at isn’t just a salad…it’s a leveled salad designed to help you eat in order while enjoying a carb life.

Angel walks us through the best way to eat one of the salads on their menu for a balanced blood sugar experience: top down. Eat the greens first, then finish with the quinoa.

Happy Sunday.
A lot of you see me running, and ask me: “What are you running from?”
I’m not running from anything.
I’m running toward something. Every time.
I’m letting my mind run free.
To tumble through the tumble weeds to get free of my own doubts and fears in order to push through something necessary to get to the next level.

This week, somebody who loves A Little Beacon Blog, but wants to understand it better, asked me: “What are you in this for? Journalism? Business? Politics? Aren’t you afraid of alienating clients when you vocalize?”

I’v answered this question to different people many times in person, online, and in my own mind. A Little Beacon Blog, Katie James Inc (website production) and my other business Tin Shingle, are my sole means of income. They are my full time jobs. This is what I do.

But this is a fair question. Ever since I revealed my bias about Palestine news coverage, many awarenesses have crystalized for me. Can you imagine hiding your normalized loving view of LGBTQ life? Or hiding your love of a community who is going through their legal immigration channels? Or hiding your love to let people live and get social services they need?

Revealing my biases in all of my businesses has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I was very afraid of it before. Many encouraged me to be quiet and hide my thoughts. And I’ve lived hidden for most of my life.

I live out loud now. I feel much safer this way. If clients don’t want to work with me for “political” reasons, that’s OK and that’s their choice. We all respect each other. That’s the goal. We don’t harm each other, or allow the harm of others if we can prevent it.

Also: Through thinking this through I’ve realized that as a white person - male or female - or a person who presents white and their cultural is not obvious - live within a privilege to hide biases or feelings. But. People of color, live within different boundaries that have been placed around them. They live their biases and politics out loud just by existing.

So no. I am not afraid of alienating clients for revealing myself. The revelation has been a blessing to my own internal liberat

Arvind Dilawar returns to A Little Beacon Blog to share with you how much money our local representatives have accepted in campaign contributions from the pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC (American Israel Political Action Committee).

Arvind’s articles, essays and interviews have appeared in The New York Times, Time Magazine, The Daily Beast and elsewhere.

Arvind reports that the House of Representative members Pat Ryan and Mike Lawler together received nearly $1.5 million in campaign contributions from pro-Israel lobbyists, according to the most recent campaign finance data filed with the Federal Election Commission. Ryan received nearly $380,000 from the American Israel Political Action Committee, better known as AIPAC, and Lawler received more than $1 million. Ryan, a Democrat, also received $5,000 from Democratic Majority for Israel, and Lawler, a Republican, received $20,000 from the Republican Jewish Coalition.

Although AIPAC, DMFI and RJC target different segments of the political spectrum, they function identically: funneling campaign financing to politicians who commit to sending billions in US tax dollars to Israel, as well as deploying US military assets to fend off challenges to Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, occupation of Palestinian territory in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and aggression against Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Politicians backed by the lobby have also attempted to legislate against growing criticism of Israel in the United States and abroad.
