So today, we will do a "Let's Talk About it" Thursday!

Today's topic... polyurethane.

Which is better....oil-based? or water-based? 🧐

GREAT question. Let me tell you.

Oil-based polyurethane, at one point in time, was the bees knees. It was considered the superior product.
Then, companies like Bona started making water-based polyurethanes with 2 part components that changed the game. These water-based polyurethanes now come with an added hardener that completely surpasses the oil-based durability.

Don't get me wrong, oil-based poly is still great and affordable!
But, let me break it down for ya...

Oil-based poly:
*dries is approximately 8 hours, typically 1 coat per day
*strong scent
*ambers (yellows) over time, which is why sometimes you'll see floors that are orange. think red oak + yellowing poly = orange floors after X amount of years
*affordable and cost effective

Water-based poly (I'm specifically referencing Bona Traffic HD, which is what we utilize):
*dries in approximately 3-4 hours, typically can do 2 coats per day
*no odor
*dries clear
*Greenguard certified - which means eco-friendly, kid-friendly, pet-friendly
*slightly more expensive, but worth it for all of the above

Soooooo what does this mean?
It means, DO WHAT FEELS GOOD FOR YOU, YOUR HOME, AND YOUR WALLET.
