Please check our website for current hours, tours, and admission. A typical season runs seasonally between Memorial Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. The tower is closed on July 4 every year. Tours of the Observatory offer in-depth history of the builder, Captain Lemuel Moody, the purpose of the signal tower and its impact on Portland Harbor, as well as the history of the physical structure. When you give tours at the Observatory, you never know who your audience will be. Last Friday, site manager Gerry gave a tour to a fantastic wrestling team visiting from Bulgaria! Thanks to Gerry's knowledge and their friendly, proficient translator, the students were able to get a tour of the Observatory and a great view from the top. We hope it's one of the Portland experiences they remember fondly as they return home.

If you're interested in a group tour of the Observatory, email Observatory Manager Aimee Keithan at akeithan[at]portlandlandmarks[dot]org. And if you're a non-English speaker, don't let that put you off--we have written histories of the Observatory in multiple languages so you can experience a self-guided tour in your native tongue.

Don't forget the Observatory opens for the season on Saturday, May 23. We can't wait to see you then!

Caption this! It might be too cold to enjoy the Observatory, but we're working away behind the scenes planning next season for you. In the meantime, we thought we'd have a little fun with AI. We can think of a few good ones but wanted to ask you: How would you caption this?
