Most people pick the wrong tool to build credit.

Credit scores can impact your ability to buy a house, get favorable terms on your next car loan, and even determine your next job in some cases. Improving your score is much different than just checking it, so you’ll want to compare SmartCredit and Credit Karma to make the most of your strategy.

I go deeper into the major differences on my YouTube channel so you’ll wanna check that out before deciding. Link to my channel is in my profile!

This is why you have an emergency fund. Four days ago, a giant storm cell ripped through our neighborhood, dumping more than 9” of rain overnight. Our sump pump failed, which backed up water into our basement.

After removing standing water and replacing the pump, we realized water had gotten underneath the flooring. The padding and plastic lining were soaked down to the concrete floor.

Here’s how much we spent to fix the damages (so far):

$350 - new sump pump
$200 - cleaning supplies
$80 - water sensors (to put near all water sources to alert us when a leak happens)
$15 - moisture meter (detect moisture levels in drywall)
Free - fans and dehumidifiers (both we own and some we borrowed)

We will likely have to cut the bottom 12-18” of drywall to remove any potential of mold. But before we fix up the basement, money has to be spent outside the house to address water drainage and runoff.

We are SO thankful family came over to help us, both with clean up and watching our girls!

And we’re really thankful we have a solid emergency fund to help cover this unexpected expense. If you don’t have any savings, let this be your sign to start contributing to an emergency fund EVERY month. This is the first step I have all my coaching clients take!

Someone told me we’ll need to have something stronger than beer for our next B&B episode and I’d have to agree!

Keep you all posted as we navigate expenses related to this awful mess!
