Oregon lawmakers demand accountability after study finds toxic chemicals in most braiding hair products 05/27/2026

When OEC helped pass the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act in 2023, a key focus of the legislation was protecting Oregon's most marginalized communities from toxics in the products they use. This new study clearly shows the deeply engrained environmental racism that makes the policy so critical. OHA is set to adopt the new rules by January 1, 2027 — when they do, it's imperative that braiding hair products are covered in the scope, and kept free from heavy metals and harmful organic compounds.
