Throwback to the very first pressing of Lilacs into coconut oil for my Lilac Enfleurage balm. Each tiny bloom was plucked and pressed lightly into a base of coconut oil. I was so curious to try a method that has been time tested for over 100 years. I had read about enfleurage years ago in Mandy Aftel's fantastic book 'Essence and Alchemy'. Jasmines, gardenias, lilacs and other delicate usually indolic flowers do not take well to steam distillation so a cold pressing of the flowers makes a great option for a scent imprint. It was very satisfying to capture this first moment of spring. 💜
