We will offer business based teaching, training and technical skills, youth scholarship awards, job skills and training, mentoring, tutoring, economic literacy, violence prevention, computer literacy, and crisis counseling for the youth and disadvantaged adults.
• To teach effective social and interpersonal skills to 100% of program participants. These include communication, respectful greeting, and eye contact, shaking hands, handling conflict, managing stress, managing anger, and solving problems. To be self-sufficient, we must be able to identify and address problems, manage stress and anger, handle conflict, and effectively deal with youth on all levels.
• To provide safe, stable living accommodations to battered women, young adults, pregnant/ parenting, including former foster care youth, prison-re-entry participants, and veterans. We strive to provide a living environment that promotes independence, increases self-worth, encourages creativity, and gives the participant the dignity and respect they deserve. We demonstrate this by celebration and recognition of our participants for current and past achievements.
• To provide services to assist the homeless veterans, women, and families to develop both the skills and personal characteristics needed to enable them to live independently.
• To provide the opportunity for education to 100% of program participants. Support and resources will be dedicated to participants obtaining their high school diploma or GED, attending trade school, vocational school, or community college, and entering Job Corps or the military. Due to legal guardianship requirements, residency requirements, and lack of proper records, some youth and adults face difficulties attending school. The Save a Life Today Foundation Program has developed relationships with schools that expedite the acceptance of youth and adults into the school or training program. Education increases opportunities for more education, for better career and job choices, and for higher income potential. This helps participants achieve.
• To provide training and assistance in obtaining and retaining suitable jobs to program participants. We will conduct pre-employment skills training, assist with the job search process, and provide job retention counseling. Participants must know what it takes to get a job, keep a job, and advance in their chosen jobs and careers to have a stable life.
• To provide training and exposure to computer technology to 100% of program participants. We will provide hands-on experiences in basic computer operation, Windows 2007/ XP operating systems, and keyboarding skills. Today, people use computers to access information at the library and at home, to apply for jobs, and while at work. Computers and technology are critical to success. The Save a Life Today Foundation Program will help participants be prepared to use and be comfortable with technology.
• To offer Supportive and aftercare services to 100% of program participants who are in the program. By staying ahead of participants The Save a Life Today Foundation Program participants will be able to be ahead in school, with our homework help program, maintain healthy family relationships, while offering them resources and referrals. This will strengthen family confidence and ability to handle life's stresses. Using former participants' feedback, we will also strengthen our program by better preparing current participants.
• The following objectives address the needs of participants and fulfill federal legislation requirements to assist in their successful transition to self-sufficiency: Annually, to provide safe, stable care, nutritious snacks and development to over 250 youths and adults. The Save a Life Today Foundation Program helps individuals regain self-esteem and stability. The Save a Life Today Foundation Program uses Reality Therapy and the Family Teaching Model as the philosophical basis for our approach. Both serve as excellent tools for teaching, modeling and rewarding effective behaviors--critical to the participant's ultimate success living on their own.
• To assess needs, determine goals, and plan individualized services for 100% of program participants using the client's initial and ongoing input. We recognize the unique needs of the client, we address the person, ''where they are'' and celebrate the achievement of each goal or milestone. This learned process of planning and achieving would help the client realize personal success and self-sufficiency.
• To teach life skills to 100% of program participants. These skills include cleaning, doing laundry, having the responsibility of chores, maintaining personal hygiene, cooking, nutrition, athletics, using community resources (leisure and recreational centers, YMCAs, libraries), public transportation (Metro train, MTA), and reading maps. Participants must learn the importance of managing and caring for one's self and home environment and learn to access community resources to be successful.
• To ensure that 100% have access to medical care. We will take participants to clinics and we will teach or provide training resources dealing with health issues including STDs, pregnancy and parenting, depression, and medication management. We will offer counseling or referral for treatment of substance abuse and teen pregnancy. Lack of healthcare awareness affects people's ability to be successful in school and on the job (maintaining their employment). Some participants will identify their healthcare resources available in the community at low and no cost to manage their ongoing health needs.
• We are dedicated to providing the opportunities and resources to underprivileged children and adults to keep them off the street, promote higher education, attain scholarships, and to provide the tools to make positive change in their lives. The objective of the program is to improve self-sufficiency measures of good citizenship, personal accountability, and serve as a vessel for participants to utilize and develop skills that will help them grow into dynamic/successful members of the community.
