My dearest Barney,

You suddenly passed over the rainbow bridge on Sunday to dog heaven. 🌈💔 Choosing to give you a peaceful death was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make but my heart is at peace knowing you didn’t suffer.

Anyone who ever crossed your path knew instantly that you were an extraordinarily special dog. Everywhere we went, people stopped to meet you, curious about your unique appearance. Your velvety floppy ears, sausage body, outward facing paws, crooked tail, snaggle tooth, long tongue, and mischievous spirit made everyone chuckle.

You were my soul dog, a dog who can never be replaced. You made a profound impact on my life. You taught me about unconditional love, compassion, and happiness. We shared so many adventures. You were my best friend through all the highs and lows of life: marriage, divorce, many moves, remarriage, and kids.

The world was a far better place with you in it. Thank you for choosing me. Though I’m filled with immense sadness that you’re gone, those who burn the brightest sometimes burn half as long. I know you’re reunited with your dog sister Rosie, running on the beach, frolicking in the snow, barking at everything, and eating all the rotisserie chicken your heart desires. I can’t wait to see your tail wag again and rub your belly, and I know you’ll give my face a giant lick when we see each other again.
