As someone who worked there, this is blatantly untrue- the mission was to present and educate in the arts from a local, national and international level. The dance presented when I was there included a small rising NY based modern company to the Bolshoi Ballet to a local Philippino choreographer. Funding was largely from tickets and unrestricted (no donor restrictions) donations with a small federal fund to run the park aspect. Since January 2025, both ticket sales and donations are literally at their worst point ever- down about 75%. The Center currently survives by replacing lost income with federal subsidy from the White House. In true satirical fashion the statement released by the John F Kennedy Center today reflects the current, not the past ideology. #1984
