Declaration Of Interdependence

We hold this truth to be self-evident: that all flourishing is mutual.

As we recognize the 250th anniversary of our collective rejection of tyranny, let us use this moment not only to look back, but toward the future in which we want our grandchildren to live. It’s what good ancestors do.

Let us declare independence from the short-sighted, extractive worldview that actively harms the homeland we love so dearly, and celebrate instead a declaration of inter-dependence.

I'm glad we have the bill of individual rights, but what about a bill of mutual responsibilities.

Great writers of the past have given us inspiration. Let’s carry that on and co-create a new declaration to celebrate our connections and the web of reciprocity in which we are all held.

Click (https://tinyurl.com/mt4pazj8) to hear Rachel Katyl open HopeGateway's 2026 "Tell Me More" series by sharing her family's journey from Pennsylvania to Guatemala to Maine, and how the church became their community after settling in Portland. She then reflects on how joining Beacon Community Fitness's Mama Movement program—nearly three years and 250+ classes strong—helped her rebuild not just physical strength after having kids, but also confidence, community, and a sense of self, closing with a reading from Kate Bowler on self-compassion and being made on purpose.

This July we are doing a ball cap collection for Hope Squad Maine.

Baseball Caps (gently used or new) are a highly requested item this time of year. Baseball caps to protect our friends from the sun, which is important for those who are living outside 24/7.

Bring your gentle used or extra unused ball caps to worship or during the week during the month of July and we'll deliver them to Hope Squad to distribute to those who need them most.
