Happy 17th to Wilmington’s Gravity Records!

17 years ago today, we opened the doors of Gravity Records for the first time. ⁣

𝙎𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙀𝙀𝙉 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙎 𝘼𝙂𝙊⁣

Let that sink in a second…⁣

17 years later, a lot of laughs, a lot of tears, good times, bad times, haters, naysayers, backstabbers, late nights, early mornings, rescued dogs, windfalls, pockets lookin’ like rabbit ears, an 𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘, and more ups and downs than any business should ever have to go through, and we are 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 here. We are 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 doing what we love, 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 your favorite record store’s favorite record store, 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 have the baddest dogs (), and 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 doing what we can to help this city that I’m proud to call my hometown.⁣

Ya see, business isn’t all dollars folks. It’s mostly sense. Sense of community, sense of duty, sense of honor, and in our case, a sense of history. “It’s rules to this $h!t, I wrote me a manual.”⁣

We wanted to throw y’all a party. Bands, beers, good tunes and good times. With 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙖 on the rise, the time ain’t right for that kind of celebration or ANY celebration to be honest. I could write another lengthy post on that (and probably will soon) but I digress…⁣

I won’t be around the shop this weekend to commemorate our milestone with y’all as me and my ride or die will be on the road digging up some vintage vinyl artifacts for the home town homies and all of our customers around the world. However, my guys will be in the shop all weekend holding it down, crackin’ jokes, and serving up musical history.⁣

To be honest, those guys are the ones you should all be celebrating anyway. Give them their flowers. Without them, Gravity Records would not have made it through the last year let alone be thriving and growing more than ever! Those guys are my allstars. My family. I will do everything in my power to make sure my team have everything they need to survive, thrive, and succeed in their lives in and out of Gravity’s pull. ⁣

Gravity is family. Gravity is forever. ⁣

Thank you all for everything. I owe you one.⁣

With gratitude,⁣

Matt Keen

A note from HR:

As of the class of 2022, we will no longer be considering high school diplomas from the state of Texas valid. You will need to complete a junior college US history class in another state before applying for employment. We would apologize for the inconvenience but we’re really not the ones who need to.

Today we say goodbye to one of our favorite venues. VM was always amazingly welcoming to our bands, even when we were just starting out as a label. They will be sorely missed.
