One of the things we love about mongering is the seasonality of wild fish. Halibut derby fish are definitely something we look forward to every year. In Oregon our quota is much smaller than Canada or Alaska. This smaller quota limits the amount of days of commercial harvest. In 2025 it only took seven dates, totalling only 174 hours, of fishing to hit our quota. So if you want the freshest most local halibut of the year, get your butts down to PFM this week.
