Remembering Arthur (Usher) Fellig, who died on this day, December the 26th, in 1968.

Better know by his pseudonym Weegee - a name said to have either derived from his time working as a darkroom assistant (where he was nicknamed 'Squeegee') or from the phonetic spelling of Ouija (as in Ouija Board) a name given to him by fellow photographers and the local police due to his apparent ability to predict where and when the best street & crime photos were to be had (of course owning a police band radio also helped 😉)

Photographer and photojournalist Weegee was known for his stark black and white street photography on the streets of New York.
