Try out a tool before buying, or just borrow when needed. Kitchen Share SE is a place where community members can borrow from an extensive collection of kitchen appliances and tools for free. We hope to offer pressure cookers, canners, knife sharpeners, bread machines, popcorn makers, grain mills, dehydrators—even place settings and a cider press! The goal is to provide a wide variety of handy ite

One of our most requested items ever is now in the library! We have two sizes of air fryers available--6.5 liter and 2 liter. Reserve one soon to "fry" vegetables, meats and prepared foods with just a spoonful of oil.

Hey all!! I need 3-4 volunteers to help move some things around and clear the storage in the back area of the library ... so we can make room for more catering and entertaining stuff!! Dishes! Glasses! Silverware! Chafing dishes! Things you wouldn't have to rent in the future for a community dinner or wedding or big family event!

Next Saturday, the 22nd from noon- 2. I doubt it will take that long and you'll get some of my fig preserves as a thank you.

Thinking about Black Friday, perhaps consider, instead of acquiring another plastic appliance, borrowing it from the Kitchen Share instead! If you suspect you won't be using the new appliance much, consider purchasing and donating, which means the community may share it.

What were you eyeing this Black Friday?

Some great ideas came out of last Sunday's meeting to support our three goals of sustainability, equity and self-sufficiency. Allow me to speak on Robin's and my behalf: to be frank, we *really* need volunteers helping to make the Library sustainable. This is SUCH a resource for SE Portland and we'd hate to lose it.
I just learned that Southeast Grind, the only 24/7 coffeeshop in PDX is going to close this month. And when I read that, I thought, "I wish I'd known they were in trouble. I'd have supported them- but now its too late". So we're telling you- in order to make the Library successful, we need your help now. To sign up to help, click here.

Here are the Opportunities:
Operations: everything related to how the library functions. Maintaining the books and budget, making sure there are instructions for how to do everything volunteers need, making sure that the systems we use make sense and are consistent (like standardizing the numbering system we use for inventory). Scheduling volunteers, and making sure we're covered for shifts.

Education: creating workshops and classes through finding out what people might like to learn about, and finding instructors for them. Getting cookbook authors to demo, working with local companies like Steinbart and organizations like the PDX Fruit Tree project on projects like an annual cider press.
|
Outreach: making sure people know about our library through social media, the newsletter, the website, tabling at events and putting up our new posters at businesses and buildings with a receptive audience. Working with local press to get pieces written about us, recruitment of volunteers.
|
Inventory: sourcing new items for the library, either purchased or donated. Maintaining the current inventory, cycling items in and out for repair, accepting donations. Arranging the library in the best way for items to be found/discovered. Selling/donating excess of items.

Running the library shift on a Saturday morning or Tuesday evening. (you can still sign up for training on Nov 9 and Nov 12).

We'd appreciate a donation of 3 hours a month to help make these things happen. 3 hours- that's all, and we'll manage our projects online so you can do it from home And in return- here's what you'd get:

a greater say in what items we source for the Kitchen Share
priority for reserving items
a 50% discount on all workshops and classes
a real role in working towards food equity and reducing waste.

Kitchen Share Committee Signup we are collecting this information for the purpose of collecting your email address so we can work online with other volunteers. If you indicate interest below, we will add you to our project management board so we can work on library tasks from home, and you will receive an email from us with next....
