Portland gave us something we didn’t know we were missing: The freedom to be ordinary.

To hold hands at the farmers market—and have people smile when they see us.

To hike together and simply enjoy the view.

To tell a stranger we meet at Costco or a local food cart about my husband without pausing, editing, or wondering if it is safe.

To share our life online and feel our community genuinely celebrate our love.

These moments may seem small, but they have changed something in me.

They remind me that being visible can feel joyful.

That being gay can feel light, playful, and happy.

That love does not always have to be defended or explained.

Today is our first Portland Pride as Portlanders, and I’m grateful for the rainbows, the celebration, and the community.

But I’m even more grateful for the ordinary days.

The markets.
The hikes.
The conversations with strangers.
The simple freedom to say, “My husband and I…” without fear.

Because sometimes, the greatest form of Pride is simply getting to live your life openly, safely, and joyfully.

Hike with Mike: Council Crest!

Join us Sunday, July 12 for another Portland adventure!

📍 Meet: Pioneer Courthouse Square at 10:30 AM
🚆 Depart: 10:45 AM as we take the train together to Washington Park

From there, we’ll make our way to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, then continue our walk up to Council Crest, where we’ll take a break, enjoy the views, and recharge before making our way back.

👟 Lace up those tennis shoes.
