Hello, hello!

I hope this letter finds you well! I have some news to share and thought it was a good time for an update from this side of the river! This past year has been full of new adventures for my family and me. Jack, 12, and Abe, almost 10, are thriving and love their new schools in White Salmon. Jason has spent the past year starting his sawmill business and building our home. Despite supply chain issues and labor shortages, things are coming along with the build-out, and we hope to move in by fall! I’ve been working as a substitute teacher in several local school districts, an opportunity I’ve grown to appreciate and love!
Twelve years ago, before I opened Button, I planned to become a high school English teacher and was enrolled in PSU’s graduate teaching program. At the time, Jack was a new baby and I felt overwhelmed by the prospect of going back to school full time with an infant. I don’t know why I thought opening my own store would be more manageable (ha!), but it felt like the right choice at the time. Now, a decade later, I’ve come full-circle and I’m grateful for the opportunity to revisit teaching.

When I closed Button last year, I knew that my next professional endeavor needed to allow more time for fun with my family, walks in the woods, and home projects, things that I love but that had taken a back seat to the demands of the shop. This goal has only grown over the past year and, as I've spent time teaching in the schools, I've developed an appreciation for the way my schedule and focus blends with my kids' lives. We are aligned in a way that makes connection easy and inevitable. What a gift!

So after much consideration, I’ve decided to pivot and start the journey to becoming a full time teacher! Continued in comments…

Hey there,

Well, I finally have some news to share with you all. While I've worked with a number of potential buyers over the past 6 months to try to sell Button, it has ultimately proven unsuccessful and I will be closing up the shop over the next few weeks.

Everything is on sale so this is your chance to grab a treasure or two at a very steep discount. All used consignment clothing, shoes, and bags are 40% off with an automatic discount which you'll see at checkout. The rest of the shop is 25% off which will be applied as a refund when I fulfill your orders (Shopify won't let me allow 2 discounts at the same time). We also have more treasures in-store that are not listed online!

We will be open 11-5 Sat 3/6, Wed 3/10, and Sat 3/13, which is our last day.

If you have anything to pick up or if you want to swing in to shop, please come by--I'd love to see you! The online calendar is updated with available appointments for in-store shopping but most of the spots are reserved for walk-in shopping spots so please come by! Many of you have asked if we are going to sell our plants. We have other plans for them currently but will update you if and when they become available.

Feel free to use your credit in the shop or online by leaving a request in the note box in your cart. We'll refund you and apply your credit when we fulfill your order (same applies for using gift cards online). If you'd like to take a check, you can come get one when we're open or email us to have a check mailed to you. We'll deduct $2 for this service and mail it out as soon as possible!

Closing Button is the hardest decision I've ever made and I am heartbroken about it. But I am also filled with gratitude and humility for the love and support you all have shown me and my shop over the years. And I am so excited about what's next! I'll be sending updates over email and through our social media as we dream up our next shop out in the Gorge! Can't wait to take you on our journey over the next year.

xo Liz
