I keep forgetting to breathe. Is that
Natural? For humans, to forget
To breathe?
Or is it a recent development in the anxious atmosphere of late form capitalism
To forget to do such a simply necessary thing as breathing..
And
What else am i forgetting
To do?

Am i supposed to be scratching my back on tree trunks as i pass,
Getting out my knife to scratch them back
Archiving my travels for other pretty women to know
avian was here

What about water? It seems like water
Is supposed to be my home. Have i forgotten
To put my body in every body of water i see?
What super powers would i have if i remembered..

To be singing while i’m working, being the call
Of the call and response
Because somebody has to, and i always want to
And i keep forgetting
That means i’m made to, i’m bade to
In the invitation that was my birth

What if the dissatisfaction
I associate with human living,
That fuels every creative act
And every exploration,
Is the aching walk home from
Everything, everything i have forgotten
To do? Like breathing.
