Glorifying Obesity

From my friend, Laura Turner:
The world thinks that losing weight is the "fix" for fat people, but countless people talk about how they 'lost weight' and it didn't fix a thing; in fact, it made them obsess even more about their bodies.
Body Acceptance really is the cure to the madness, but we're all taught that being fat is an issue that we somehow have control over. People go to great lengths to change their bodies into something they are not.
News Flash: We don't have control!!
2-5 years from that inital dieting, 99% are fat again unless they start performing disordered eating and exercise; and even then, there's a really large percentage of people who STILL can't maintain a smaller body. People find themselves sick, in order to survive the hate, and it makes me so sad to watch!
Folks often cite that they want to be "healthy", which is a load of manure, honestly. Genetics play the majority of the role in your health, only about 5-7% of your health is about the food you eat or the exercise you do; 93-95% is genetics!
Why are we so hyper-focused on health, anyway? It's an illusion propagated by the Medical Industrial Complex. They put the fear in you, so that you buy into their "plan". This makes them a lot of money, in a society that capitalizes on human fear as a part of our healthcare!
Here's the thing ..if we're so hyper-focused on "health", we make less time for rest. We then start to feel "lazy", if we're not being "productive". We start shaming ourselves for needing rest! That's totally fu**ed up, IMO!
Maybe, just maybe... You've been lied to about all of this?!?!
Yup!
All to make profits over people! It's a money-making scheme. You want to know how I know that?
Bam: There's not a single Peer Reviewed Journal Article that states that anyone can sustain weight loss 2-5 years out from initial dieting. Your brain has a "set point" with your weight, and if you diet, your brain goes haywire, trying to get you to regain. That's why we have all of those cravings while dieting! Restriction is one way to really fk yourself up!
And just so we're clear, the healthcare system is notoriously anti-fat, anti-woman, anti-black, anti-poor. It's a system built on oppression! The system can't say all of *that* out loud anymore, but they still say the "fat thing", Loud And Clear. It's socially acceptable to shame fat human beings. Women feel the shame the most, but all genders are affected!
We live in a society that is totally focused on the wrong priorities! It's incredibly gross to watch it all unfold around me. I wish people understood the origins of fatphobia, but they don't.
It comes from racism.
Fat Black Women started the Fat Liberation movement! We need to celebrate and honor them and their expertise! I wouldn't be here, without them!
When I talk about Fat Liberation, I emphasize that none of us are getting out of this alive. If we are going to die regardless, why be miserable engaging in restriction and counting calories, or going under the knife to have your Healthy Stomach removed?
STOP THE INSANITY!!
They are profiting off of you hating yourself!
I've yo-yoed my whole life and always thought I didn't have "Will Power", but there's no such thing, when we're talking about the basics, such as eating.
For instance: It sounds ludicrous to tell someone to stop drinking water or breathing air. No one tells us that we're doing that "too much", do they?
Exactly!
Fatphobia and fat hatred suggests that fat people eat "too much", when scientific studies show that we eat the same amounts as people in smaller bodies! Don't watch those TV shows that depict something different. Remember... that crap makes money. Capitalism. Also, exploitation. Ew!
I am aware that some people have been diagnosed with Binge Eating, and I've posed this question before: What are you craving that food is replacing? It's totally acceptable for someone to use food as comfort, because that's an innate response to distress!
Fat hate causes people to stop eating and to stop listening to their natural body cues that we are born with. We also get overly concerned with *how much* we are eating. It becomes compulsive for some folks, like it did for me. It feels tragic that I engaged in that as a child, and as an adult. 😭
Food is neutral and so are our bodies!
Stop the moral judgements of yourself and others, please!
Diet talk, healthism and fat hate are pervasive in our culture and that's why I talk about it here.
I have said this before and I'll say it again...
