⚠️ Leptospirosis Alert for Oregon Dogs

Record numbers of sea lions along the California and Oregon coasts are sick with leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that can also infect dogs and humans.

Lepto spreads through contaminated water, soil, or wildlife urine, so even city dogs are at risk, not just those who hike or swim.

At Pearl Animal Hospital, we recommend the Lepto vaccine as a core vaccine for all dogs. It is safe, effective, and the best protection against a disease that can cause kidney and liver failure.

Safety Tips:

-Keep dogs leashed and away from sea lions or other marine mammals on the beach.

-Do not allow dogs to drink or swim in ocean water or tide pools where sick or dead sea lions may have been present.

-Wash your hands and rinse dogs thoroughly if they come into contact with beach areas frequented by sea lions.
