We're pleased to share that WMC Technical Director Dr. Jayne Bock collaborated with lead author Carly Isaak and colleagues at the Canadian Grain Commission and Cereals Canada on a paper recently published in Cereal Chemistry.
The study highlights challenges in the reproducibility and accuracy of peak detection in twin sigma blade mixing curves generated at the standard mixing speed of 63 rpm. It details how increased mixing speed can improve consistency and precision in peak detection with a limited sample set, offering a first step toward addressing curves that resist reliable peak identification.
This work grew out of discussions within the Cereals & Grains Association Physical Testing Methods Committee, which Dr. Bock chairs. This kind of institution-spanning collaboration is what moves our industry's testing methods forward.

As we wrap up the month of June, we want to say a big THANK YOU to our incredible wheat industry partners for helping make this busy month of tours and workshops such a valuable and memorable experience for all domestic and international visitors we hosted.
University of Idaho Ag-Econ Program students gained firsthand insight into the many connections across the U.S. wheat supply chain — from production and transportation to milling, baking, export logistics, and food innovation. Baking and milling teams from China and South Korea got to experience farm production and commercial baking to better understand how wheat gets produced, processed and baked into end products.
We sincerely appreciate the time, expertise, and hospitality shared by the following partners this month:
• Bonneville Dam
• Dave’s Killer Bread
• Columbia Export Terminal
• Columbia Grain International
• Columbia River Bar Pilots
• Oregon State University
• Grain Craft
• Marsee Bakery
• Maritime Museum & Fort Stevens in Astoria
• Shaver Transportation
• Pacific Northwest Waterways (PNWA)
• OSU Food Innovation Center, Portland Oregon
• U.S. Wheat Associates
• Port of Portland
• Thomas Dierickx's Farm
• Viterra Oilseed Processing
Research and education programs are only possible through strong industry collaboration and a shared commitment to education. Thank you, partners of WMC!

Wheat Marketing Center was proud to host the University of Idaho Agricultural Economics Program last week in Portland!
In its second year, this multi-year, USDA-grant collaboration between the University of Idaho and the Wheat Marketing Center brought students from universities nationwide on a week-long learning experience about wheat markets and the supply chain. They learned about the U.S. wheat industry, grain markets, export systems, wheat quality, and end-product functionality through presentations, facility tours, and hands-on learning experiences.
Programs like this help connect classroom education with real-world industry experience while giving future agricultural leaders a broader understanding of the global wheat supply chain, the ways that US wheat is used around the world, and the important role U.S. wheat plays in food systems around the world.
