Big news on the horizon for the East Fork Carson River!
We’re on the cusp of conserving Park Ranch—a 1,688-acre property near Markleeville, CA, where 1.6 miles of the East Fork Carson flows through cottonwood stands, mountain meadows, and sagebrush-steppe—by conveying it to Alpine County. This is one of the last undammed rivers in the Eastern Sierra, and it’s home to the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout, mule deer, bald eagles, black bears, and so much more.
Once protected, Park Ranch will be a conservation and recreation treasure, connecting public access between Markleeville Campground and Hangman’s Bridge, while preserving vital fish and wildlife habitat and the ranching legacy that has shaped this landscape for generations.
