In Her Presence

It's finally summertime! IHP is always looking for good places for field trips so our immigrant community can learn more about Maine and start to facilitate a deeper bond with all the wonder it has to offer. Do you have any field trip suggestions or opportunities for us? We'd love to hear from you!

Friday, June 12th, the Senior Men and Women, led by IHP staff Thierry and Claudine, ventured to Freeport to Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture & the Environment. The group partnered with volunteers from Androscoggin Bank and teachers from In Her Presence to learn about farm operations and discuss the differences and similarities between farming practices in Maine and farming practices in Africa. IHP storytelling teacher, Eloise, facilitated conversation among the participants, staff and volunteers who shared their farming stories over a delicious meal of traditional African food. They met goats, sheep, baby and adult chickens, and even got to see the dairy barn where this year's calves were resting in the shade.
