Just sing. ☀️

Twenty-five years ago today, in Boston, Massachusetts, a young drummer walked into a young songwriter’s house for a Halloween party she was throwing with her art-friends. He came dressed as a severed head.

The songwriter was dressed as a temporary office worker, having grabbed some clothes she had stashed in a paper bag in case she ever had a “real” job interview.

She sat down for the assembled party and played her sad and angry songs for the piano. The drummer listened. He gave his number to the piano player, telling her that he was a drummer and that he liked her songs.

They were both looking for a band.

They got together a few days later at a Boston basement practice space and they both looked up and both thought: “there you are” and….the rest is history.

Twenty five years, people. We did it.

There’s never been a real job interview. This is the job.

We toured the world, we played thousands of shows, we bled, we cried, we played with colds and fevers, we never canceled a single show, and we hugged you after our shows, often sweaty and often broken. We did what we saw our heroes doing; we tried to find some kind of bigger truth through music.

With your help, we did.

We plan to do it all again, soon.

We know you’ll be there when we do.

Thank you to all our community all over the world, to our management and agents and publicists and assistants and lawyers and relentlessly humorous touring crew; to the dancers and photographers and filmmakers and bodypainters and drink-shakers and ticket takers and coat check folks at every gig. We have had so much help along the way. Without you all we are nothing.

Here’s to another 25 years of The Dresden Dolls, everyone. We have been through a lot together.

We’ll check in on Oct 31, 2050. But hopefully we’ll see you sooner than that.

Life is no Cabaret.

We don’t care what you say.

We’re inviting you anyway.

Just sing.

Just sing.
