30 years ago today, Velvet Crush released “Teenage Symphonies to God.” Produced with Mitch Easter, this second album by the Rhode Island-based power-pop trio earned excellent reviews but did not chart. Personnel: Paul Chastain (bass, vocals) & Ric Menck (drums) both formerly of The Springfields, plus one-time Madisonian Jeffrey Borchardt (guitar) formerly of White Sisters + Honeybunch. The band wrote all songs apart from two covers, written by Gene Clark & Matthew Sweet. Fun fact: The album title refers to Brian Wilson’s description of the music he was creating for the legendary unfinished 1967 Beach Boys LP “Smile.” More in Comments.
