Behold the earthen portals of Portland’s own, Maggie Irwin.
:.

We are honored to host a selection of captivating color studies from this buoyant restauranteur-artiste.

Irwin is perhaps best known for her delectable & longed-for St. Johns haunt, Pastificio d’Oro - though lately she’s been exploring a newfound culinary project in the form of a French Cajun pop-up called Ma Cher, with her partner Chase, from inside the acclaimed Dame restaurant. But Maggie’s creativity clearly expands far beyond her coveted salad dressing, while still holding the same humble, well-considered, and deceptively-complex ex*****on as her food.

Painted in acrylic & pastel, these “Portals” explore radial color theory in a way that simultaneously awakens, transports and grounds the viewer. They are meditations on curiosity and acceptance, translated in a style that lives outside of time, while nodding to mystical painters of the past like Hilma Af Klint and Sonia Delaunay.

Consider us enchanted.

As we go into our darkest season during the darkest time this country has seen, celebrating what connects us & makes us human -the arts- seems more important than ever.

View Irwin’s work in-person during our shop hours, and coming soon, online at shoplyko.com.

Add some charm to your holiday with a unique piece of Grandma’s loving art, respectfully reclaimed by the modern maker.
These stockings were made from beautiful antique cutter quilts by local slow fashion designer, Old Aurora, whom we adore.

Old Aurora is the womyn-owned design-work studio of expert handcrafter, Molly Georgetta ~ Portland, Oregon.
We’ve been working with Molly since we opened and are always amazed by her eye for design paired with deft ex*****on. Coincidentally she is also an absolutely delightful human and wonderful small batch maker to support if you’re trying to stay off that fast fashion sh**.

Wrap up in rad grandma’s hope garden. :.
Quilt remnant design is pretty quintessential slow fashion but there’s something about the nostalgic daydream of this particular quilt, paired with the modernity of a hoodie cut, that feels really awake to history somehow. Maybe it reveals the false safety of the white picket fence while still embracing its optimism. Maybe it reconfigures that American daydream into a utilitarian abstract that welcomes all, and that’s pretty rad. Thanks grandma. You’ve really got us thinkin’.
