This is a reminder of why we do this work.
Households earning 0-30% of the area median income (~$0-$30,000) experience the largest gap in Portland’s housing stock. The city lacks roughly 19,000 deeply affordable units, leaving tens of thousands of Portlanders without a place to live. Stats like this [fuel our storytelling efforts... or something like that]. Stay tuned for more on policy, data, and ways to get involved.

“A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson 🏠
Home means safety, belonging, and a place to call our own. A home is more than just a roof and four walls.
Research shows that stable, affordable housing strongly predicts health, learning, and well-being, forming the foundation for nearly everything else that makes life work. With a home, you can keep food in the fridge, take your medicine on time, trust your children will wake up in the same bed, build friendships, and imagine the future.

Where should Dear Portland go next? 👀
After welcoming 2,000+ visitors and 40 events, we’re creating a smaller, traveling version of the exhibition, and looking for places to host it.

We need YOUR help to take down Dear Portland.
As we wrap up the Dear Portland, we’re looking for a few more helping hands to join our community cleanup and teardown. It’s the perfect way to spend one last evening together celebrating the impact of this project.
The best part? We’ll have pizza and drinks for everyone who helps out! 🍕🥤
🗓️ When: Sunday , April 12th
⏰ Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📍 Where: Stelo Arts (412 NW 8th Ave)
🛠️ The Job: Teardown, pack boxes, and vinyl removal (no experience needed!)
We couldn’t have reached thousands of people without this community, and we’d love your help to close this chapter properly.

We see data as far more than numbers, stats, and charts — we believe that in front of every statistic is a story. Uplifting the real stories of folks impacted by the Portland housing crisis is one of our most powerful tools we have to drive positive change. 💌

WeShine designs, builds, and operates neighborhood-based micro villages that provide safe, transitional shelter with wrap-around services for Portland’s underserved, unsheltered adults as they prepare to become successful tenants in permanent, affordable housing.
They currently have three sites partnered with faith communities around Portland and work to not only provide services and next steps for their residents, but they also engage community members to be involved in their programs.
We are so grateful to feature them as a community partner 💌
