🥟A Taste of Home: Slavic Chicagoland 🇸🇰
UpRooted’s Deah Partak's recent trip back to her Slovak-American roots began with a grocery run through local Slavic markets and Slovak aisles! From Kofola, halušky, and bryndza to jars of pickled cabbage and rows of kolachy, every shelf felt like opening a door to Slovakia!

Being here in Slovak Chicagoland, these markets are more than just stores, they are gathering places where you’d hear Slovak, Polish, and Czech all in one aisle, and perfect place to unlock a cherished childhood memory!

Being here really highlighted how these pockets of Slovak and Slavic life across the U.S. mean so much for those of us of Slovak descent and Slovaks living abroad. They’re little anchors; places where we can reconnect to our roots, find our community, and keep a slice of “home” alive whether that’s our childhood Slovak-American neighborhood or Slovakia itself.
