Letter from our Superintendent
Dear Community,
We know that there has been a great deal of concern in our school communities about the Trump administration’s recent announcement of a directive regarding a temporary freeze on all federal grants and loans.
The directive, which was to take effect at 5 p.m. today, would have temporarily paused federal grant and loan payments, pending review by the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB). This afternoon, a federal judge paused the directive until Monday, February 3.
The potential impact on PPS remains uncertain as the situation evolves. Our budget and legal teams are closely monitoring information from OMB and the federal and state departments of education, and we will respond proactively and appropriately. In the meantime, we have been advised by the Oregon Department of Education to maintain business as usual.
That means we will continue to show up for our students and fellow staff members, focusing all of our efforts on ensuring that our young people have stable and joyful learning environments in which to thrive, learn, and grow together. Thank you for everything you do to make that happen.
