They are based on information about how the human body works during labor. Couples are taught how they can work with their bodies to reduce pain and are empowered to calmly and confidently approach labor and their postpartum experience. Of the more than 1,000,000 couples trained in this method of natural childbirth nationwide, over 86% of them have had spontaneous, unmedicated va**nal births. This is a method that works! Nutrition, exercise, and relaxation are focused on in this class to create a foundation for a healthy and confident childbirth. Couples also learn about pregnancy, the mechanics of labor and birth, advanced techniques for labor and birth, patterns of emotion that often reflect what is taking place within ones body during labor and birth, complications, cesarean sections, the coach’s role, postpartum care, breastfeeding (we recommend La Leche League meetings), and life with a newborn. Our classes cover a few topics that are rarely discussed in other classes like: how to reduce the need for an episiotomy and the likelihood of a tear, how to avoid unnecessary intervention, how to make the best of intervention, if it’s necessary, and what the coach should do if the baby is accidentally born in the car.
