πΎπ Special Visitors at Port Richey Fire Department! ππΎ
We had some very special guests stop by the station today from The Runaways Animal Rescue, and they brought along some adorable four-legged friends who quickly became the stars of the day! β€οΈπΆ
Did you know that Dalmatians have a long and historic connection to the fire service? Before fire engines were motorized, firefighters responded to emergencies with horse-drawn steam engines. Dalmatians were used to run alongside the horses, helping to keep them calm while clearing the way through busy streets. Once on scene, the dogs would guard the horses and equipment while firefighters battled the blaze.
Their loyalty, intelligence, and natural bond with horses made them the perfect firehouse companions, and over time they became an enduring symbol of the fire service that continues to this day.
Thank you to Runaways Animal Rescue for stopping by and sharing these wonderful animals with us. We always enjoy opportunities to support organizations that make a difference in the lives of pets and our community.

Earlier this month, crews from the Port Richey Fire Department came together to complete our semi-annual Water Rescue and Rapid Diver training ππ€π€Ώ
This important training allows our members to review lessons learned, strengthen both surface and subsurface water rescue techniques, and complete practical evaluations to maintain proficiency in these critical skills. π
Training also included the use of the AquaEye, an advanced underwater sonar device designed to assist rescuers in locating victims and submerged vehicles in the water.
Technology and continuous training like this help ensure our crews are prepared to protect and serve our community during water emergencies. We are proud of the dedication our personnel continue to show every day. ππΊπΈ
