We waste so much energy in battles we were never called to fight. The enemy isn't flesh and blood — and the sooner we identify that, the sooner we stop exhausting ourselves on the wrong target.
Know Who You Are Fighting
Devotional:
It is easy to look at the difficult people in your life and assume they are the problem. The coworker who undermines you. The family member who keeps letting you down. The person who hurt you deeply and never apologized. It feels natural to direct your frustration at them.
But here is what is true. They are not your enemy.
Ephesians 6 is clear that our real battle is not against people. It is against spiritual forces working in the unseen world. When we forget that, we end up spending enormous energy fighting the wrong battle. We argue, we retaliate, we hold grudges, and we wonder why nothing ever changes.
Meanwhile, the actual enemy is perfectly content to watch us exhaust ourselves fighting each other. A divided church is a distracted church. And offense is one of his most effective tools for keeping us stuck.
This does not mean the pain people cause is not real. It is. But when we correctly identify where the battle actually is, we stop wasting energy on the wrong target and start directing our focus where it actually matters.
Today, think about someone in your life you have been treating as the enemy. They are not. They are a person in need of grace, just like you. Redirect your energy. The real battle is spiritual, and it requires spiritual weapons.
Bible Verse:
"For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." - Ephesians 6:12 (New Living Translation (NLT))
Reflection Question:
Is there a relationship in your life where you have been treating a person as the enemy instead of recognizing the spiritual battle behind the conflict?
Quote:
Your spouse is not the enemy. Your children are not the enemy. Your pastor is not the enemy. Your church is not the enemy. The person who offended you is not the enemy. The person who disappointed you is not the enemy. The person who voted differently than you is not the enemy.
Prayer:
God, help me see people through Your eyes and not through my hurt. Remind me who the real enemy is so I can stop fighting the wrong battle. Amen.

More Than a Destination Change
Devotional:
There is a meaningful difference between a convert and a disciple. A convert changes a destination. A disciple changes direction. And Jesus called us to make disciples.
That distinction matters because discipleship is not a one-time event. It is a relationship. It is showing up consistently, having honest conversations, asking hard questions, and being willing to let someone into the real parts of your life. It gets messy. It takes time. And it is absolutely worth it.
Every believer should be able to answer two questions: Who is pouring into my life right now? And whose life am I pouring into?
If you cannot answer one or both of those questions, that is not a reason to feel guilty. It is an invitation to take a step. You do not need to have everything figured out to invest in someone else. You simply need to be one step ahead and willing to show up.
Discipleship happens over coffee. It happens around dinner tables and during phone calls. It happens when you notice someone struggling and choose to stay instead of scroll past.
The Holy Spirit is already nudging you toward people who need what you carry. Pay attention to those quiet promptings. The person who keeps coming to mind might be exactly who God is calling you to walk alongside.
Bible Verse:
"Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:20 (New Living Translation (NLT))
Reflection Question:
Who is one person in your life right now that you could take a small, intentional step toward in order to begin or deepen a discipleship relationship?
Quote:
"We are sent to make disciples, not converts. A convert changes a destination. A disciple changes direction."
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be someone who not only receives from others but also pours out. Show me who You are calling me to walk alongside, and give me the courage to show up for them. Amen.
