CrossFit: An Unexpected Adventure

CrossFit has been an incredible journey, and I’ve learned so much along the way.

Two years ago, I didn’t even know CrossFit existed. My body was craving movement because I wasn’t taking care of it. It all started with ā€œLet’s train for a 5Kā€ā€”and after crossing that finish line, the next question was, ā€œWhat now?ā€

That’s when we discovered CrossFit. We had no idea what it was, so I started researching. The workouts looked intimidating, and I was nervous about my first class. But we pulled the trigger and showed up.

On day one, we were introduced to body composition. At the time, we had no idea what that meant. We learned about body fat percentage, visceral fat, skeletal muscle mass, and so much more. Seeing those numbers was a wake-up call. That moment shifted our focus—it was no longer just about the number on the scale; it became about our health. (And for the record, we thought we were healthy before—oh, how little we knew! šŸ˜‚)

That first class was eye-opening. We saw people from all walks of life, at different fitness levels, all doing the same workout. It was the encouragement we needed—proof that anyone can do this.

Since then, CrossFit has taught us about nutrition, mental toughness, persistence, rest, longevity, community, and most importantly, what the body is truly capable of!

I had no idea my body could do so much. I’ve learned that fueling it properly is key. Carbs? A CrossFitter’s best friend. Muscles? My new goal. Rest? Just as important as training—because you can only perform at your best when you recover.

And let’s talk about competition… I never saw myself as a competitive person before, but now? That fire is on! The best part? The person I compete with the most is myself.

Watching my progress has been incredibly rewarding, but the best part of this journey has been sharing it with an amazing community—a community that pushes you, encourages you, and lifts you up!

The pictures above are from a competition I did a couple of months ago, and I was lucky to have an incredible partner. Can you believe she’s a family medicine doctor?
People like her are inspiring!
