The Hidden Danger of Scented Candles & Diffusers for Pets ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿพ
Many of us love filling our homes with cozy scents, but did you know that scented candles and essential oil diffusers can be harmful even toxic to our furry friends?
Why theyโ€™re risky:
Toxic oils: Many essential oils (like tea tree, citrus, eucalyptus, pine, peppermint, and cinnamon) can cause vomiting, drooling, tremors, or even liver damage in cats and dogs if inhaled or ingested. Cats are especially sensitive because their livers canโ€™t process certain compounds.
Smoke & soot: Burning candles produce smoke and tiny particles that can irritate your petโ€™s lungs, trigger asthma-like symptoms, or worsen existing respiratory issues.
Accidental ingestion: Curious pets may lick leftover wax or knock over candles or diffusers, leading to burns or poisoning.
Strong scents = stress: Even if non-toxic, strong fragrances can be overwhelming to a petโ€™s sensitive nose, causing anxiety or avoidance behaviors.
Safer alternatives:
Use unscented candles or wax melts (never leave them unattended).
Opt for pet-safe diffusers with oils known to be safe in very small amounts (lavender and chamomile are usually safer, but always check).
Ensure good ventilation and keep pets out of the room while burning candles or diffusing oils.
Your pets rely on you to keep their air safe sometimes what smells โ€œniceโ€ to us can be harmful to them! ๐Ÿ’›
