During Venditalia last month, the EVA was proud to officially present the new EVA SmartLink specification to the wider industry. EVA SmartLink is a new open and secure interoperability architecture designed to modernize communication between unattended retail solutions, such as vending machines, professional coffee machines, payment systems, and management software.

The presentation of the background, context, and technical details of the specification attracted significant attention from both operators and manufacturers looking for future-proof solutions for the unattended retail ecosystem. A constant flow of visitors to the EVA stand thereafter witnessed live demonstrations of several machines and peripherals already integrating EVA SmartLink technologies.

Over the coming months, as part of a communication campaign, the EVA will present the specification at a range of national vending association events and discuss its benefits with many industry stakeholders.

The National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) today issued the following statement on enactment of Connecticut Public Act 26-89, a law allowing camera security monitoring of self-service kiosks in employee lounges and breakrooms beginning October 1, 2026.

“Modern convenience services are part of how many workplaces support employees every day,” said Michael Hogg, director of state and local government affairs for NAMA. “When policy allows operators to use standard security tools, it ensures that these amenities are reliable, safe and stocked with the essentials people are looking for.”

Recent industry findings from the NAMA Foundation show that self-service retail and workplace amenities are driving some of the strongest growth in food and beverage access. Those findings reinforce the role convenience services play in supporting workforce needs, workplace flexibility and the day-to-day function of the environments where people work and gather.
