Benefits of Hiring a Licensed Contractor
Find out the importance of a contracting license and what it means for your project.

When a contractor has a license, it means:
They’re competent
The licensing process tests basic competency as well as ways to screen out dishonest contractors. A valid license is the first indication that your contractor might be qualified to do the job.

They can apply for permits
A contractor seeking to pull a building permit must prove to the district that he or she is licensed and insured.
They have insurance and bonding
To obtain a contracting license the contractor must hold the minimum insurance and/or bonding as required by the district. Most states require that contractors demonstrate proof of insurance as part of obtaining a trade license or registering.

Is a license always required?
City, county, and state requirements all differ, so make sure you know what the requirements are for where your home is located. Many states, but not all, require contractors to be licensed and/or bonded. Pennsylvania’s Contractor Registration listing can be found on the Home Improvement Consumer Information page.

Home Improvement Contractor Search Registration under HICPA is not an endorsement, recommendation or approval by the Office of Attorney General of the contractor's competency or skill.

Looking for ideas, for your Finished Basement? Here are some suggestions, straight from the Pros. Give us a call or message if you’re thinking about remodeling your basement, or any other room in your house!

1. Dress up the walls.
Try something fun, like Grooved Wall Plank as seen here. Or tall wainscot can give the space a homey vibe while saving the drywall from dings and dents.

2. Flooring
Vinyl click flooring is low maintenance and water tight, with endless colors and textures to choose from.

3. Hide the Ductwork
Ductwork is easily hid, by creating bulkheads and framing new walls. Bi-fold doors allow air passage to the units while keeping the eyesores out of view.

4. Use furnishings to set the tone.
Leather furniture, throw pillows and a colorfully textured area rug can warm up a light, airy space.

Tip: Make sure temps stay toasty.
A chilly basement will chase people away. Give it a separate thermostat, and put supply registers near the floor, not the ceiling. If you need supplemental heat, try electric baseboards or radiant mats.
