Though our winter has been pretty mild, we really appreciate the Penn Hills Shade Tree Commission taking the precautions to protect against winter salt spray! Salt and deicer can be very damaging for plants, so a salt shield is a great winter maintenance practice for trees planted along highly trafficked areas
Less snow and ice during this mild winter has meant less salt on the roads and driveways, which is good news for trees and plants! Just in case, some trees have salt shields to protect them from salt spray. TreeVitalize Pittsburgh planted 15 trees along Allegheny River Boulevard last fall, and the Penn Hills Shade Tree Commission is adamant about keeping the trees alive and healthy!
