Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, Pedro was not your regular sporty kid. In fact, it was only at the age of 16 that he was finally able to step in a deep water pool, where the mere thought of swimming across was daunting. Running came into the picture a couple of years later mostly instigated by his dad and as an arrangement to "earn" time in front of the computer screen where he was used to sp
end all free time. Triathlon started (as for most of us) as a fun challenge and with no other expectation than finishing the race. Unsurprisingly performances weren't impressive from the get-go, but soon Pedro realized that the harder he worked the better he became. Commitment, perseverance and a new-found love for the sport took him from bottom of the pack to a stellar debut in an official Ironman (2nd place Ironman Florida 2010) and to becoming the first Portuguese ever and yet to date to win an official Ironman race (Ironman Sweden 2013). Pedro is now consider an established triathlete, known across the World for his fearless and relentless racing style. While the past three years have been plagued by injuries and crashes early in the season, which always led to "slow" starts, Pedro's resilient personality continues push him further and faster, regularly scoring Top 10 finishes at full Ironman events and constantly proving to be a stellar marathoner off the bike, with multiple 26.2 miles ran under 2h50. Always supported by his family in pursuing his ambitions as a professional triathlete, he strives everyday to become a better athlete. He races mainly Ironman races and has his sights set on winning some of the sport's greatest competitions, including the renown Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
