Ducky (shown here) came into the rescue just after Easter 5 years ago. She was given to children as an Easter gift but as she grew, the novelty wore off and, truthfully, ducks are messy. She was fully imprinted and believes she is a person. Ducky was terrified of other ducklings, even ones smaller than her. Luckily, one of our volunteers adopted her.

Ducklings in this situation learn to rely on humans for food. This cannot be changed or altered. Releasing them at the nearest pond is irresponsible behaviour. They may not be accepted by other ducks and cannot survive on their own.

As cute as ducklings (and chicks) are, please do not purchase them for Easter.
