Today we commemorate Juneteenth.

On this day in 1865 word of freedom finally reached a quarter of a million enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas; two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

As United Methodists, we believe that freedom is a spiritual and actionable practice. As we celebrate this milestone, let us recommit to the ongoing journey of pursuing liberation, dismantling the sin of racism, and ensuring equity for all of God's children.

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." – John 8:36

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your compassion & love. Open our eyes to see others as Jesus sees them. Fill our hearts with Your grace & send us to share Your hope, kindness, & truth with those around us. Empower us to be faithful workers in Your harvest field. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
