To offer a man unsolicited advice is to presume that he doesn't know what to do, or that he can't do it on his own. Men are very touchy about this because being competent is very important to them. By presuming that he doesn't know what to do, it comes across to him that he has a weakness, and you don't trust his ability to do it himself.

Note to women: Don't offer a man advice unless he asks for it. Instead, if you must, phrase it as a curious question. "So, what would happen if...?" And let him make his own decisions. All he needs is for you to support him.
