Our team members are no strangers to serving others. It’s what we do. And many of our team members have also served the country. Like Karen Sauls, LVN, Clinical Liaison in California, who started her career in the U.S. Marine Corps at 18. She later went to nursing school and enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, where she served at a military hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Today, she continues to serve others by helping individuals, including Veterans and active-duty members, get the services they need to live well. Thank you, Karen, and thank you to all Veterans and active-duty members for their service!

Throughout the month of September, The MENTOR Network celebrates and thanks our extraordinary Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Life Skills Trainers and other direct care staff. Beginning September 12, we also mark National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week. Each day during the month of September, we will be highlighting a DSP of the Day on our page.
DSPs and other direct support team members are the lifeblood of The MENTOR Network and the driving force behind our work to help the individuals we serve thrive and grow as members of the community, regardless of the challenges they face. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our DSPs across the country have risen to the challenge and displayed remarkable dedication to caring for the individuals they serve. Thank you to all of our direct support team members for providing life-changing support for the people we serve every day. You make our mission possible.

On this date in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, government services, public accommodations and transportation. Since its signing, the ADA has opened doors for countless Americans to pursue meaningful work, access services and shape the course of their own lives.
Today, we celebrate this historic victory and the progress that has been made toward ensuring that everyone, regardless of the challenges they face, is able to live their life to the fullest in the community they call home. We also recognize the ongoing importance of community inclusion for individuals with disabilities, a guiding belief here at The MENTOR Network. Whether an individual requires 24/7 support or is able to live more independently, they should have access to the supports they need to live a life of promise and opportunity. Please join us in celebrating the 31st anniversary of this landmark legislation, and in reaffirming our commitment to a building a more inclusive world for all.
