North America lies mostly between the Arctic Circle and the Tropic of Cancer completely surrounded by bodies of water, including the Pacific Ocean, the Bering Strait, the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. North America includes all of the mainland and related offshore islands lying north of the Isthmus of Panama. The "Anglo-America" term is often used in relation to Canada and the United States combined, while the term "Middle America" is used to describe the region including Mexico, the republics of Central America, and the Caribbean. It is said that the name America is derived from that of Italian navigator Amerigo Vespucci, who may have visited the mainland of North America in 1497 and 1498. Many of the North America destinations have found place in the top tourist destinations the world over.
